About the Mopar Brand

Mopar is Chrysler Group LLC’s service, parts and customer-care brand.

Mopar distributes approximately 280,000 parts and accessories in more than 90 countries and is the source for all original-equipment parts for Chrysler, Jeep®, Dodge and Ram vehicles. Mopar parts are unique in that they are engineered with the same teams that create factory-authorized vehicle specifications for Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram vehicles — a direct connection that no other aftermarket parts company can provide. A complete list of Mopar accessories and performance parts is available at http://www.mopar.com.

More than 70 Years of Mopar

When Chrysler bought Dodge in 1928, the need for a dedicated parts manufacturer, supplier and distribution system to support the growing enterprise led to the formation of the Chrysler Motor Parts Corporation (CMPC) in 1929.

Mopar (a simple contraction of the words MOtor and PARts) was trademarked for a line of antifreeze products in 1937. It also was widely used as a moniker for the CMPC. The Mopar brand made its mark in the 1960s — the muscle-car era. The Chrysler Corporation built race-ready Dodge and Plymouth “package cars” equipped with special high-performance parts. Mopar carried a line of “special parts” for super-stock drag racers and developed its racing parts division called Mopar Performance Parts to enhance speed and handling for both road and racing use.

Also, today we bring you “This Week in Motorsports.” This Week in Motorsports is a video recap of weekend motor sports events in NASCAR, the Nationwide series and other competitions under the Chrysler LLC banner.

“Under the Pentastar” is a quick video recapping important happenings around the company over the past week. This week’s stories include:

And in other news, straight from the mouth of Chrysler themselves:

“Some people say that size doesn’t matter. Through most of its history, Chrysler Group (and its previous iterations) has rarely been the biggest automaker.

That’s okay because as CEO Sergio Marchionne said May 24 at our Sterling Heights (MI) Assembly Plant, the company’s vision and aspiration is not to be the biggest automaker, “just the best.”

Sergio Marchionne announcing Chrysler's Pay Back

Sergio Marchionne at Sterling Heights on May 24th, 2011

Still, it was nice to hear all the good noise made in the May sales stories last week about our fantastic sales for May — when practically every other OEM declined or was flat. We were among the Big 3 again. While we don’t know what the future holds, all of Chrysler Group is hard at work to continue the growth we’ve seen the past year.

2011 Dodge Durango Crew

2011 Dodge Durango Crew

And, that growth — looking at gains, not raw numbers — is where Chrysler Group is leading the industry in a handful of segments. Those segments are:

Through the end of May, we’ve been growing and improving — faster than the U.S. auto industry has combined. And, in cases like Compact SUVs, Jeep® brand is driving the growth.

The two tables below look at the five segments noted above. The first table compares May 2011 to May 2010, and the second one compares the first five months of 2011 to the first five months of 2010. The data is from our Demand & Order Management group. You can find similar information at places like the Wall Street Journal’s Market Data Center.”
