2012 Chrysler 300 SRT8

Mike Driehorst- October 11, 2011 10:09 AM- White is the most popular color for new vehicles. That’s according to a story last week by The Detroit Bureau (quoting from a PPG survey), as well as current data on new Chrysler, Jeep®, Dodge, Ram and SRT 2011 and 2012 model year vehicle sales.

But the Chrysler Group‘s Communications Facebook Page and Chrysler Twitter communities have slightly different preferences for their new vehicle colors. We’ll give you those stats, but first let’s look at those doing the buying.

From The Detroit Bureau‘s car color story:

“At 21%, white not only rolled into the top spot but displaced the perennial favorite, silver, which slipped just a micron behind black….With white, black and silver all coming in at over 20%, the rest of the spectrum had to pick up the scraps.”

Our customers agree. According to sales data, their color preferences for 2011 and 2012 model year vehicles ranked:

  • Bright White Clear Coat
  • Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl Coat
  • Bright Silver Metallic Clear Coat
  • Black Clear Coat
  • Deep Cherry Red Crystal Pearl Coat

For this post, I didn’t gather numbers but you can see that, as in the national survey, white, black and silver are in a pretty close race for most popular color honors.

From the Chrysler Communications Facebook and Chrysler Twitter communities, we received more than 60 replies, with at least a few people offering up two answers to the question (first posted Wednesday): If you bought a new car/truck/SUV, etc., right now, what color would it be?

Three people said white.

2011 Dodge Durango R/T

2011 Dodge Durango R/T

However, echoing closely to national survey and our own customers, black came out on top with 16 votes. That was closely followed by red with 15. No other color was close: orange (including Mango Tango) tallied nine votes, green tallied seven votes and blue pulled in six supporters.*

Other favorites included gray, silver, yellow, tan/light brown and fuscia.

If you want to add your colored two cents, please leave a comment.

September 23, 2011 , Auburn Hills, Mich. – The editors of PickupTrucks.com today named the Ram 1500 Best $30,000 Pickup in their first ever value shootout.

The Best $30,000 Pickup Truck Shootout pitted a Ram 1500 Quad Cab HEMI® against similarly priced entries from Ford, Chevrolet, Nissan and Toyota. Entries were judged on towing capacity, performance, handling, styling and fuel economy.

“This test is an overwhelmingly strong third-party validation of Ram Truck‘s Value for the money and proof positive that we are meeting the needs and expectations of our truck customers. The Ram 1500 Quad Cab is one of our most popular models. Ram Quad Cab gives you four full doors and seating for up to six adults. Equipped with the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8, the Ram 1500 balances 20 mpg fuel economy with the performance and capability of 390 horsepower and 407 pound-feet of torque. Ride comfort is also exceptional, thanks to a Ram 1500’s segment-exclusive coil spring rear suspension.”

“The Ram was the overall winner because rather than being a standout in any one category, it did well across the board. In a contest so focused on value, the truck that does well in the most overall categories is likely to come out on top. The Ram not only outperformed the other four trucks, but also has the fewest sacrifices or compromises, feature-wise. That’s exactly why it won. This shootout was all about best bang for your buck. With money being a major concern for everyone right now and pickup trucks being the best-selling vehicles in the country, it was important for the focus of this shootout to be about value over anything else.”

2011 Ram 1500 Express

July 18, 2011 , Auburn Hills, Mich. – U.S. News & World Report has named the 2011 Ram 1500 the best full-size pickup. In the magazine’s ranking of top vehicle choices, Ram 1500 scored the highest among the eight full-size pickups available to U.S. buyers.

The rankings are based on an in-depth analysis by U.S. News editors of all published vehicle ratings, reviews and test drives.

“This honor recognizes, in aggregate, the consistent, positive reactions we’ve been getting since we launched the current Ram 1500 model. In developing the Ram 1500, our team worked hard to understand what truck customers want. Ram Truck is committed to being the truck technology and innovation leader, and that commitment will guide us as we continue to improve what is already the most awarded Ram truck ever.”

-Fred Diaz, President and CEO
Ram Truck Brand and Chrysler de Mexico

Ram drew praise for its interior comfort, class-leading handling and HEMI® V-8 performance.

“The 2011 Ram 1500’s smooth, car-like ride, well-designed and comfortable interior and powerful V-8 engines make it a top pick in its class,” said the U.S. News editors.

“When Ram’s designers updated the Ram 1500 for 2011, they managed to make improvements to an already-impressive truck,” the magazine went on to say. “The result is a full-size pickup truck that many in the auto press say is the best in its class.

2011 Ram 1500 Tradesman

2011 Ram 1500 Tradesman

““Reviewers love the Ram 1500’s ride, handling, power, and interior, even on less expensive trim levels. The Ram 1500 offers many convenient cargo solutions, such as storage cubbies underneath the rear seats on Crew Cab models. Other models offer the RamBox, lockable storage containers built into the truck bed above the wheel housings.”

The magazine cites other third-party accolades in naming the Ram 1500 the best full-size pickup:

“The Ram 1500‘s interior is as good as it gets in the pickup segment.” — Edmunds

“The available V-8s are impressive performers, the chassis is well suited to heavy work and the Ram‘s cabin is a class leader in terms of design, ergonomics and materials.” — Edmunds

Ram earns high marks for ride comfort, creative storage options, and abundant available power. Impressive cabin trappings are a nice bonus as well. Chevy, Ford, and Toyota loyalists would do well to have a look. You may well be won over by this Best Buy.” — Consumer Guide

“When towing various size trailers on a short loop, the HEMI-powered Ram acted as if nothing was attached to the rear. It just chugged along, getting up to 60 mph with ease, even with a 9,000-pound Air Stream attached on a simple hitch” — Detroit News

“There are lots of nooks and crannies (more than 40) to hold cell phones, gloves, tools, folders and just about anything else. There are even two floor storage bins that include removable containers for easy cleaning.” — Detroit News

“Storage spaces abound: under the rear seats; in the doors, the center console, and the dual glove boxes; and within the new drainable, lockable ‘RamBox‘ bins in the bed walls.” — Car and Driver
