2011 Targa Newfoundland Motorsport Event in St. John's Newfoundland

September 19, 2011 , St. John’s, Newfoundland – Each year, hundreds of high-performance vehicles descend on the scenic Atlantic coast of Canada in a celebration of speed called Targa Newfoundland. This year, three factory-backed SRT vehicles joined a diverse field of international competitors eager to test their vehicles’ technical limits. For the 10th edition of Targa Newfoundland, the three-car SRT effort led by Ralph Gilles, has raised close to $26,000 for the Autism Society of Newfoundland and Labrador. The funds raised will help provide services and programs to individuals and families affected by Autism.

Pledges can still be made online at www.autism.nf.net. Daily updates on the rally, a blog, photos and video can be found at www.drivesrt.com. Followers can also log onto www.Motoman.tv for daily videos from the event and to www.pacionemotorsport.com for more competitor highlights.

“We are pleased to have raised close to $26,000 to help the Autism Society of Newfoundland & Labrador. Targa gave us the perfect proving grounds to test our SRT products in some of the most extreme conditions and our winning results this past week are a great testament to the quality, high performance and robustness of our Chrysler Group products.”

Ralph Gilles,
President and CEO of the SRT Brand

All three vehicles participating in this year’s Targa Newfoundland for the Chrysler Group were production models. Ralph Gilles finished in second place in the Modern Category driving a Dodge Viper SRT10 production model; Rob Pacione won the Open Category aboard a Dodge Challenger SRT 392 with a Mopar Performance exhaust and Crate 392 HEMI® engine; while George Notaras, in his first ever participation at Targa, drove a production Challenger SRT 392 to a ninth place finish in the Grand Touring Category.
