Named to the exclusive group of engines last year after its introduction in the 2011 Jeep® Grand Cherokee, the Pentastar V-6 engine is now standard or available on Chrysler 200, 300 and Town & Country; Dodge Avenger, Challenger, Charger, Durango, Journey and Caravan. For 2012, the Pentastar 3.6-liter engine also is now standard on the new Jeep Wrangler.

Editors tested the 2012 Jeep Wrangler and the Chrysler 300 in this year’s shootout.

Designed to meet a variety of requirements across both front-and rear-drive models, the Pentastar V-6 also is the exclusive engine used with the new eight-speed automatic transmission on Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 models. The engine and transmission combination deliver 31 miles-per-gallon (mpg) on the highway.

On Jeep Wrangler, the 3.6-liter engine improved fuel efficiency to 21 mpg on the highway while delivering 285 horsepower and 260 lb. ft. of torque, improvement s of 40 and 10 percent, respectively.

The seat bottom on the front passenger side lifts up revealing a spacious storage compartment, in addition to in storage located in the floor in the back seat, very similar to the hidden storage in the Ram Crew Cabs.

October 6, 2011 , Auburn Hills, Mich. – Melissa Sweeney, of Woodbridge, Va., tracked down the third and final 2012 Dodge Journey hidden inside a barn in St. George, Maine, as part of the Dodge brand’s “Search Engine for the Real World” campaign and vehicle giveaway. Sweeney found the 2012 Dodge Journey with help from family members contributing to the search efforts from home.

“Taking home a new Dodge Journey was the biggest driver. I never thought I’d spend three days traveling more than 900 miles and sleeping in my car. I can’t believe I beat out the hundreds of others who participated in the search. It was an incredible experience for me and my family.”

The day before the East region search was live, Sweeney drove from her hometown in Virginia to Vermont to be in a good position to begin. For the next two days, she followed a long series of online and real-world clues that took her to New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and, ultimately, Maine. Along the way, Sweeney’s task force at home, composed of her husband, sisters, mom and dad, aided in the search efforts, monitoring the online conversation and researching clues.

Sweeney managed to stay ahead of an estimated 200 people on the road participating from various parts of the United States – including Arizona, California, Texas, Nevada, Oklahoma, Illinois, Indiana, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, Florida and Wisconsin. It was a close race, with two runner-up teams arriving shortly after Sweeney.

“The ‘Search Engine for the Real World’ campaign was an innovative way to showcase America’s most versatile and affordable mid-size crossover – the Dodge Journey,” said Reid Bigland, President and CEO – Dodge Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “It also proved extremely engaging, with more than 1 million people watching the Dodge brand’s YouTube channel and thousands exploring America in search of a new Journey.”

Dodge launched the national television and digital advertising campaign on Friday, Sept. 9, positioning the 2012 Dodge Journey as the “Search Engine for the Real World,” the perfect vehicle for people looking for adventure. The campaign encouraged people to get out and explore the real world instead of just reading about it online and, as an added bonus, included a chance to win one of three Dodge Journey vehicles hidden across America. Vehicles were hidden in the West, Midwest and East. The first person to find each Dodge Journey, won it.

There were approximately 300,000 people watching the live camera feed during the campaign for an average of 25 minutes. Ultimately, thousands of people searched the nation for a chance to win a 2012 Dodge Journey.

The first Dodge Journey was found in Gardnerville, Nev., on Sept. 10. The second was located near Strong City, Okla., on Sept. 17.

September 13, 2011 , Auburn Hills, Mich. – An adventurous outdoorsy father and son from Nevada proved that family teamwork and hiking trips pay off, as they were the first to find one of three 2012 Dodge Journey vehicles hidden across America in the Dodge brand’s “Search Engine for the Real World” giveaway.

Bruce Armbrust and his 9-year-old son, Matthew, of Gardnerville, Nev., worked together to track down the Dodge Journey in Hope Valley, Calif.

“With all its AWD and roominess, the Dodge Journey is the perfect vehicle for our family,” said Bruce Armbrust. “We love the great outdoors and taking road trips, which means the storage space in the Journey will be put to good use.”

Dodge launched the new television and digital advertising campaign Friday, Sept. 9, positioning the 2012 Dodge Journey as the “Search Engine for the Real World,” the perfect vehicle for people looking for adventure. The campaign encourages people to get out and explore the real world instead of just reading about it online and has an added twist: a chance to win one of three Dodge Journeys left hidden across America – one each in the West, Midwest and East.

As part of the campaign, TV spots show a Dodge Journey on trips across America and end with the viewer being told that the vehicle they’ve just seen headed somewhere beautiful is, in fact, still sitting in that real world location waiting to be discovered. The first person to find the Dodge Journey, wins it.

The contest now moves to the second location somewhere in the Midwest with a new television and digital spot debuting Sept. 17, followed by the East spot on Sept. 24* for the third location. If viewers look closely, each frame of these 30-second spots contain clues to the location of the hidden Dodge Journey vehicles. The contest ends Sept. 27.

The Armbrust family saw the first TV spot, “Search Engine,” Friday night while watching a college football game and recognized some of the scenery, in part due to the family’s interest in hiking, geocaching and taking road trips. They immediately went to Dodge’s YouTube Page to see the spot again and even headed out on the road that night for a first look. Saturday morning, they tuned into the Dodge YouTube channel again to see the “West” spot and view a 24/7 live camera feed streamed on the vehicle.

Clue videos, the live feed and participant’s comments in the social media stream about shadow and sun positions, ultimately helped narrow down the hunt. By Saturday morning, Bruce Armbrust set out with his son to explore the world wide world and discovered the vehicle 16 hours after they saw the first TV spot.

“The minute we saw the commercial, Matthew and I were determined to find and win the Journey,” added Armbrust. “We are proud to replace our other vehicle, which is on its last leg, with a brand new 2012 Dodge Journey.”

Nearly 52,000 people tuned into the live video stream on Saturday spending an average of 21-minutes on the site. Additionally, since the campaign’s launch, there have been nearly 250,000 comments on the YouTube/Dodge social media stream from people logging in via Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

*Due to fan feedback, the launch dates of the next two Dodge Journey giveaways were moved from Friday to Saturday to allow more people to participate over the weekend.

The campaign takes viewers on a tour of some of America’s most picturesque landscapes while showcasing the Dodge Journey’s unrivaled versatility.

“The Dodge Journey is the ‘Swiss Army knife’ of vehicles. America’s most versatile crossover is also now the most affordable in its class, starting at $18,995 MSRP. Part compact car, due to its affordable pricing, part SUV with available all-wheel drive, and part van with available seven-passenger seating, the Journey offers best-in-class versatility, driving range and value, allowing Journey drivers to explore all that America has to offer.”

The initial 30-second TV spot, “Search Engine,” shows a montage of three Dodge Journeys on various adventures across America – kayakers headed out for a trip, a group of friends on a road trip and a family ready to camp. The spot ends with the viewer being told the vehicle they’ve just seen headed somewhere beautiful is in fact still sitting in that final real world location waiting to be discovered. The first person to find the Dodge Journey, wins it.

In all, three vehicles are positioned in the continental United States waiting to be found, one each in the West, Midwest and East.

Subsequently, three additional TV spots – “West Coast” (debuting Sept. 10), “Midwest” (debuting Sept. 16) and “East” (debuting Sept. 23) – will each reveal details on where one of the Dodge Journey vehicles is headed and where it can be found. If viewers look close enough, in nearly every frame of each of these 30-second spots are clues to the Dodge Journey vehicle’s ultimate destination. The more consumers get to know about the Dodge Journey and its features, the more clues they’ll uncover about where one is waiting to be discovered.

Well now your fingers can still get a workout but instead of walking, by brushing a touch screen, they can call up videos, vehicle information and links to product websites thought a collection of free iPad applications from Apple iTunes for 2011 Jeep® Grand Cherokee, 2011 Chrysler 300, 200 and Town & Country, Dodge Charger and Journey and 2012 Fiat 500.

The apps make if fun and easy to research those vehicles with 360 degree tours of each one with interior and exterior images. Plus you can create your own version of the vehicle through the customization functions including colors and standard and options features. Since each brand has its own personality, so do its iPad apps.
