August 2, 2011 , Auburn Hills, Mich. – Chrysler Brand and Eight Mile Style LLC, a Detroit-based publisher of Eminem compositions, have partnered to release a gospel version of “Lose Yourself,” available now for download on iTunes. The song is performed by “Selected of God,” the choir featured in the Chrysler brand Super Bowl commercial “Born of Fire.” Keeping in the spirit of the “Imported from Detroit” campaign, Eight Mile Style will donate all publishing proceeds from the music download to three local Detroit charities – Abayomi Community Development Corporation, The Yuinon and the Robert S. Shumake Foundation.

The song can be downloaded directly from iTunes  for 99 cents. An accompanying music video, not available for download, can be viewed on YouTube. The music video was produced by the Chrysler brand and filmed throughout Detroit.

Born of Fire

“Born of Fire” debuted at the 2011 Super Bowl and was designed to generate a conversation about the Chrysler brand and the new 2011 Chrysler 200 sedan. The two-minute commercial, which was also a Super Bowl first, ignited a spark throughout the United States, as many felt a connection to the attitude and work ethic portrayed in the scenes and narration. The spot reflects where the brand is headed and pays tribute to its industrial roots. While the commercial focused on Detroit, in many ways, it encapsulated the spirit of the country and the comeback of the Chrysler brand and Chrysler Group.

The Chrysler brand chose the song, “Lose Yourself,” because the lyrics speak to the ability to do anything we set our mind to do. The Chrysler brand, the company and its employees have adopted the principle that failure is not an option.

Born of Fire also revealed the tagline for the brand, “Imported from Detroit,” created to convey the message that one does not have to cross an ocean to obtain luxury – it’s available right here and evident in the Chrysler brand product lineup.

The Robert S. Shumake Scholarship Relays is a premier class A track and field competition for high school students across the nation. Its unique model is unprecedented in that it has a dual focus. First, there’s the management changes:

Fred Diaz

  • Yesterday: president/CEO of Ram Brand and lead executive for U.S. sales
  • Today: Still president/CEO of Ram Brand, but now also president/CEO of Chrysler de Mexico, including responsibility for Latin America. This region is now under Diaz, separate from Mike Manley, lead excutive for international operations, as well as president/CEO of Jeep® Brand.

The new Mexico/Latin America role for Diaz shows the growing importance of those markets for Chrysler Group‘s future success.

Reid Bigland

  • Yesterday: President/CEO of Chrysler Canada
  • Today: Still president/CEO of Chrysler Canada, as well as president/CEO of Dodge Brand and head of U.S. Sales.

In related news for Chrysler Canada, David Buckingham has moved from VP of sales to a new position, chief operating officer.

Ralph Gilles

  • Yesterday: President/CEO of Dodge Brand and senior vice president of Product Design for Chrysler Group
  • Today: Still senior VP of product design and now president/CEO of the newly recreated Street and Racing Technology Brand, our cross-brand performance unit. Gilles also has responsibilities for the company’s motorsports activities (same as before).

In addition, Joe ChamaSrour is reassigned to international operations and reports to Manley.

Chrysler launched the SRT Brand at the 2002 NAIAS “to create a line of industry-leading performance vehicles and parts.” While we still made SRT vehicles, there wasn’t as concerted effort in development and marketing in recent years.

With Gilles’s obvious passion for design, racing and the auto industry in general, he’s the ideal person within the company to assume leadership with the SRT Brand. Through the end of May, Chrysler Group had sold 2,901 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 vehicles, the only SRT in the 2011 lineup. However, starting this fall, we’ll have four members to the SRT family with 2012 models of the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 and the Chrysler 300 SRT8 (both unveiled at the NY International Auto Show), Dodge Charger SRT8 (unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show) and the Dodge Challenger SRT8.

The 2011 Jeep Wrangler campaign will launch with two new broadcast commercials, “Extraordinary Adventure Swamp” and “Swamp Thing” on May 12. Both commercials will debut “Rock Star City Life,” a track from Kravitz’s upcoming album, “Black and White America.” In “Extraordinary Adventure” viewers will watch Kravitz as his journey unfolds, showcasing the unique capability of the vehicle and illustrating that adventure is never ordinary in a Jeep Wrangler.

“In my experience this is the perfect partnership for me,” said Lenny Kravitz. “The Jeep Wrangler is a rugged classic. I’ve been driving the same one for 16 years and I refuse to get rid of it – If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

Additional commercials for the 2011 Jeep Wrangler will also debut exclusively on the Jeep brand’s social media outlets throughout June.

The Wrangler campaign was created in partnership with Global Hue, Southfield, Mich. and is scheduled to debut May 12. Global Hue is the Lead Agency of Record for the Jeep brand. Their most recent work includes the advertising campaign, “Bloodline,” for the 2011 Jeep Compass. Bloodline featured the off-spring of legendary and famous parents who carved their own path which aligned with the creative platform for the 2011 Jeep Compass.

More good news in the Ram world! It seems the Chrysler Group Brands have racked up quite a few awards lately, with the latest being awarded to the 2011 Ram Chassis Cabs.

Last week, Work Truck magazine named the Class 4 and 5 Ram 4500 and 5500 Chassis Cab truck its 2011 Medium-Duty Truck of the Year.

Nineteen vehicles were included in an online ballot and voted on by professional fleet managers, who were asked to consider which medium-duty truck model best fit their fleet requirements, including application effectiveness, durability, quality, servicing, maintenance, and lifecycle costs.

Earlier this month, Ram Truck announced that 2012 Ram 4500 and 5500 medium-duty Chassis Cab commercial trucks will be available with an optional 30,000-lb. gross combined weight rating (GCWR), an increase from 26,000 lbs.

The Ram Truck Brand last week unveiled its new 2012 Ram Cargo Van. Below is an excerpt from a News Release from Chrysler:

“The Ram Cargo Van – or Ram C/V – features solid sliding door, rear quarter window and backlight privacy panels in place of clear glass windows. However, buyers have the option of equipping their Ram C/V with several combinations of solid and glass panels, including a choice of solid or glass backlight.

“We see growth in the Class 1 light commercial vehicle market,” said Fred Diaz, President and CEO – Ram Truck Brand and Lead Executive for U.S. Sales, Chrysler Group LLC. “With its class-leading capability and a lower total cost of ownership, the highly versatile Ram Cargo Van is a great vehicle choice for small businesses and commercial fleets.”

The Ram Cargo Van also receives a structural aluminum rear load floor. Two flooring options will be available, including one with a flat, uninterrupted, high-capacity surface. A second, optional floor provides through-the-floor access to three exclusive storage bins and load floor tie-downs.
