New for 2012- The 60-inch RamBox

  • Ram expands innovative RamBox® system to accommodate 6-foot-4-inch bed lengths
  • RamBox now available in all trim levels and Ram HD models

September 29, 2011 , Dallas – The Ram Truck brand has developed a new version of the unique RamBox® cargo management system to fit Ram pickup trucks with 6-foot-4-inch bed lengths. The addition of a 6-foot-4-inch RamBox model dramatically expands the feature’s availability to include the majority of Ram truck models.

Now, in addition to the 5-foot-7-inch RamBox, which was previously available only on Ram 1500 Crew Cab models, buyers can opt for RamBox on Ram pickups with 6-foot-4-inch bed lengths, including Ram 1500 regular cab and Quad Cab® models and Ram 2500 and 3500 (single rear wheel) Crew Cab and Mega Cab models.

Ram also will offer the RamBox option on the ST price class, making the feature available on all trim levels.

“The 6-foot-4-inch RamBox is the definition of ‘more of a good thing. We have dramatically expanded RamBox availability and given it an outstanding price. Having convenient, secure storage for your gear – whether it’s worksite tools, sporting equipment or a few cases of refreshments for the team – makes RamBox one of the greatest innovations that you’ll find on a pickup truck.”

Today’s announcement means that the RamBox option is now available on more than 80 percent of all Ram pickups.

The new RamBox trucks with 6-foot-4-inch bed measures 60 inches in length versus 50.5 inches for the 5-foot-7-inch model – an increase of 18 percent. Interior volume grows proportionately, from 7.3 cubic feet to 8.6 cubic feet.

With the added length and volume, the new RamBox can hold long-handled shovels, one-piece fishing rods and up to 140 beverage cans.

For 2012, buyers will find that RamBox pricing has not increased. In fact, Ram has reduced the price of both 6-foot-4-inch and 5-foot-7-inch RamBoxes by 32 percent to an attractive $1,295.

About RamBox

RamBox provides secure storage options for tradesmen, craftsmen, sportsmen, athletes and outdoorsmen. RamBox can store golf clubs, fishing rods, sports gear, tool boxes and more.

RamBox is a segment-exclusive cargo management system that includes three key elements:

  • Two weatherproof, lockable, drainable, lighted storage bins that run the length of the pickup bed and are as wide as the wheel well, creating a total of 8.6 cubic feet of space. The side bins are large enough to hold items including: a set of golf clubs, helmets, toolboxes, kayak paddles, fishing rods, chainsaws or beverage cans and ice. RamBox side bins create storage along each side of the pickup bed space previously left untouched due to wheel-well intrusion. RamBox bins fit the length of the pickup bed and incorporate the space over each wheel well to secure cargo within a lit, lockable and drainable container. Lids include swing hinges with intermediate and full-open positions that lift the lid 90 degrees perpendicular to each side.
  • An adjustable bed divider/extender that fits on the lowered tailgate and adds 2 feet of additional length to secure longer loads. The bed divider creates individual compartments in the pickup bed to separate payload equipment such as tools or equipment. It can be conveniently stowed in the front of the bed when not in use;
  • And a cargo rail system with sliding, adjustable cleats for infinitely adjustable tie-down versatility.

Ram Heavy Duty

The 2011 Ram Heavy Duty brings increased capability and innovative new features to the heavy-duty segment with an uncompromising attitude that remains the standard for all full-size heavy-duty pickups.

Ram Heavy Duty is available in eight distinct trim levels – ST, SLT, Outdoorsman, Lone Star, Big Horn, Power Wagon, Laramie and Laramie Longhorn. Additionally, three cab styles (regular cab, crew cab and Mega Cab) and two cargo-box sizes (6 feet 4 inches and 8 feet), single-and dual-rear-wheel configurations.

Ram Heavy Duty also delivers the performance and amenities customers demand. The 2011 Ram Heavy Duty pickups feature a hydro-formed, fully boxed frame with advanced torsional rigidity and stiffness. A coil-spring suspension setup is used up front, while the multi-leaf spring design is maintained in the rear for heavy-duty capability. Front and rear shocks and springs are tuned for optimum ride quality and capability.

Suspension tuning and C-pillar hydro mounts improve damping through the frame-bending mode frequency in order to better manage shake and after-shake response. The result is reduced shake, which means an improved ride for the customer.

Powertrain choices include the legendary 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel engine, which produces 350 horsepower at 3,000 rpm and up to 800 lb.-ft. of torque at only 1,600 rpm.

The most durable and reliable engine in its class, the 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel features a best-in-class powertrain warranty at 5 years/100,000 miles. It also has major-overhaul intervals of 350,000 miles, providing more than a 100,000-mile advantage versus the competition.

The Cummins 6.7-liter Turbo Diesel engine uses a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) to virtually eliminate particulate matter emissions and an adsorber catalyst to reduce oxides of nitrogen (NOx) by as much as 90 percent, in order to meet stringent diesel emissions requirements.

Ram Heavy Duty is the only ¾ and one-ton pickup truck to offer a lower cost, lower maintenance alternative to Diesel Emission Fluid (DEF) injection systems to be used by competitors. It’s also the only truck in the segment to offer a manual transmission.

2011 Ram 3500 Dually Laramie

2011 Ram 3500 Dually Laramie

The 2011 Ram Heavy Duty comes standard with the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 gasoline engine, delivering 383 horsepower (286 kW) at 5,600 rpm and 400 lb.-ft. of torque (542 N•m) at 4,000 rpm. The 5.7-liter HEMI was redesigned for 2009, with several new and improved technologies including Variable-valve Timing (VVT), increased compression ratio, active intake manifold with long runners for low-end torque and short runners for high-rpm power, improved cylinder head port flow efficiency and reduced-restriction exhaust and induction systems.

The 2011 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups offer a standard exhaust brake (diesel-equipped models only). This feature reduces brake fade, prolongs brake life and provides confidence and safety when hauling heavy loads on downhill grades. Large front (360 mm) and rear (358 mm) brakes with integrated Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) increase brake life and braking stability.

Customers in the heavy-duty segment have a range of needs, and most of them involve high levels of capability. The 2011 Ram 2500 and 3500 are designed to deliver a total package:

  • Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) on 2500 4×4 crew cab diesel models of 9,600 pounds
  • Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) on 3500 dually models with diesel, auto transmission and 4.10 rear axle of 24,500 pounds. With the Max Tow Package, GCWR is 25,400 pounds
  • GCWR on 3500 4×2 models of 24,000 pounds
  • Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR):
  • 5,500 pounds on diesel 4×4 pickups
  • 5,000 pounds on diesel 4×2 pickups

Other towing features include improved trailer-tow mirrors with integrated turn signals, memory function and puddle lamps. The larger 7-in. x 11-in. trailer-tow mirrors offer improved visibility with larger convex glass surfaces. The mirrors flip up and out in a vertical configuration for improved visibility around wide trailers. Trailer-tow mirrors are standard on 3500. As an added convenience, a Class IV receiver is standard on all Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty pickups.

The Ram Power Wagon also returns for the 2011 model year, equipped with electric-locking front and rear differentials, electronic disconnecting sway bar, Bilstein shocks, 32-inch BFGoodrich off-road tires, underbody skid plate protection, 4.56 axle ratio for hill climbing and a custom-built Warn® 12,000-pound winch that is accessible through the front bumper. The Ram Power Wagon also features new exterior graphics and a lower two-tone paint scheme.

2011 Ram 1500 Express

July 18, 2011 , Auburn Hills, Mich. – U.S. News & World Report has named the 2011 Ram 1500 the best full-size pickup. In the magazine’s ranking of top vehicle choices, Ram 1500 scored the highest among the eight full-size pickups available to U.S. buyers.

The rankings are based on an in-depth analysis by U.S. News editors of all published vehicle ratings, reviews and test drives.

“This honor recognizes, in aggregate, the consistent, positive reactions we’ve been getting since we launched the current Ram 1500 model. In developing the Ram 1500, our team worked hard to understand what truck customers want. Ram Truck is committed to being the truck technology and innovation leader, and that commitment will guide us as we continue to improve what is already the most awarded Ram truck ever.”

-Fred Diaz, President and CEO
Ram Truck Brand and Chrysler de Mexico

Ram drew praise for its interior comfort, class-leading handling and HEMI® V-8 performance.

“The 2011 Ram 1500’s smooth, car-like ride, well-designed and comfortable interior and powerful V-8 engines make it a top pick in its class,” said the U.S. News editors.

“When Ram’s designers updated the Ram 1500 for 2011, they managed to make improvements to an already-impressive truck,” the magazine went on to say. “The result is a full-size pickup truck that many in the auto press say is the best in its class.

2011 Ram 1500 Tradesman

2011 Ram 1500 Tradesman

““Reviewers love the Ram 1500’s ride, handling, power, and interior, even on less expensive trim levels. The Ram 1500 offers many convenient cargo solutions, such as storage cubbies underneath the rear seats on Crew Cab models. Other models offer the RamBox, lockable storage containers built into the truck bed above the wheel housings.”

The magazine cites other third-party accolades in naming the Ram 1500 the best full-size pickup:

“The Ram 1500‘s interior is as good as it gets in the pickup segment.” — Edmunds

“The available V-8s are impressive performers, the chassis is well suited to heavy work and the Ram‘s cabin is a class leader in terms of design, ergonomics and materials.” — Edmunds

Ram earns high marks for ride comfort, creative storage options, and abundant available power. Impressive cabin trappings are a nice bonus as well. Chevy, Ford, and Toyota loyalists would do well to have a look. You may well be won over by this Best Buy.” — Consumer Guide

“When towing various size trailers on a short loop, the HEMI-powered Ram acted as if nothing was attached to the rear. It just chugged along, getting up to 60 mph with ease, even with a 9,000-pound Air Stream attached on a simple hitch” — Detroit News

“There are lots of nooks and crannies (more than 40) to hold cell phones, gloves, tools, folders and just about anything else. There are even two floor storage bins that include removable containers for easy cleaning.” — Detroit News

“Storage spaces abound: under the rear seats; in the doors, the center console, and the dual glove boxes; and within the new drainable, lockable ‘RamBox‘ bins in the bed walls.” — Car and Driver
